The Staff at TAMC

The support staff at Thompson Animal Medical Center, from the front desk staff who keep track of and schedule your appointments, to the veterinary technicians and assistants who provide supportive care for your pets — are all highly trained individuals dedicated to the health and well-being of your pets.

They have received extensive training in health and safety procedures, and are committed to giving your beloved pet— the very best of care.

The Doctors

Tom Thompson, DVMDr. Tom Thompson, D.V.M.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Tom was raised all over.

Education: Michigan State University for undergraduate and veterinary medicine.

Interests: the “triad” – the connection between pet owner and pet and him as the care provider. Also, he loves internal medicine, surgery, including orthopedic, and community involvement. “Part of my internal chemical make-up is being involved,” he said of activities that include La Crosse Board of Education, Children’s Miracle Network and much more. He was on a statewide parents advisory group appointed by State Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth Burmaster. Dr. Tom loves to speak to groups.

“When I speak to schools, I ask, ‘How many of you feel your dog or cat is a member of the family?’ About 98 percent do. That is very gratifying to me because I love the relationship between pets and their owners.”

 

Dr. Jean Heyt

Jean Heyt, DVM

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. Jean was raised in Sparta, Michigan.

She, too, attended Michigan State University for undergraduate school and Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine graduating in 1976.

Interests: Dr. Jean enjoys the challenge of surgery, learning new techniques to improve the health of animals. Among her favorite patients are cats, although she enjoys caring for dogs and other animals as well.

“What I love is the whole human-animal bond and how that connection helps people through hard times.”

 

 

Gary Wiegel, DVMDr. Gary Wiegel, D.V.M.

Born and raised Browntown, Wisconsin, near Monroe.

Dr. Gary’s undergraduate and veterinary education were both at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning his doctor of veterinary medicine in 1997.

Interests: Dr. Gary enjoys many aspects of his practice, especially the challenge of diagnosing and treating difficult problems. His practice is well-rounded, but includes behavioral issues and care of wildlife and reptiles as well as other animals.

“I like the challenge of working up and identifying the problems, finding treatment and working with the owner to bring their pet back to health.”

 

 

Dr. Christine Fossitt

Dr. Chritina Fossitt, DVM

Dr. Christina Fossitt startedworking at Thompson’s the summer of 2011 after her and her husband Dexter relocated from Michigan. They moved to La Crosse for Dexter’s medical residency at Gundersen Lutheran. Christina is a2010 graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

They have2 cats named Dwightand Ellie. She likes spending her free time outside hiking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing. She also enjoys cheering on the MSU Spartans during football and basketball season. Christina appreciates the diversity of veterinary medicine and looks forward to meeting new people and their pets.
